Hey what's going on peoples!

I really don't know where to begin. I've been in SA since '97 and really have no intention of leaving but I do love to travel! I grew up in the military and did my time in the Air Force, hence my passion for traveling. My only religious experience was going to church when I was in my teens but that was only because a hot chick was actively attending lolz!

Luckily my parents weren't really religious and never crammed that nonsense down my throat. I guess growing up I figured things out for myself. I love to engage in SMART conversation and meet new people. I look forward to expanding my social circle and meeting interesting people who share a common interest. Btw, do we get a special handshake?

Lastly, I am ugly, poor, and happy. biggrin

Cheers,

Tony

Hi I'm Holly. I moved to San An about a year ago for a military assignment. Most of my friends live elsewhere and I haven't made a lot of new ones here because I work rediculous hours and go to school. I like art, music, movies and books...

Hello everyone,

I recently joined and found the intro discussion - just to give some background I was a christian for most of my adult life. About 4 years ago I had an epiphany watching of all things "Penn & Tellers: Bullshit" on the bible. Suddenly, I realized what I had suspected subconsciously for many years that it was all just a big ruse. How I could be skeptical or logical about everything else in my life except for religion was staggering. It's got a great penalty system to keep you in line, whoever invented it did a great job building in some fail safes to keep people on the "straight and narrow".

Anyway I've been UNborn again, or truly saved however you want to look at it. I'm married to a great wife who knows the truth but still doesn't want to disregard the religious side of her life. I'm surrounded by devout christians with my parents, grandparents, and siblings. Almost everyone I work with is religious, and most of my friends. None of my family know my beliefs, I do care for them but telling them isn't going to improve my situation or theirs so I'm passing for now. Most of my friends know my beliefs simply because I can't keep it a secret with everyone that's entirely too much pressure. I just want the ability to have a few moments hanging out with some people that look at life without the veil.

Looking forward to meeting everyone, I probably won't be attending any political or social injustice rallies, I'm just not that riled up but I will always be up for discussion on the topic over a beer or 2.

Howdy all,

I'm moving to San Antonio from Houston at the end of August. I was involved in secular groups in Houston, so I naturally looked for the same in San Antone, and I'm happy to have found this group.

OK, to cover some basic ground--I was raised protestant in rural east Texas. I always had doubts, and I worked things out for myself a few years ago. I identify as agnostic, and since I'm particularly interested in secular ethics, I primarily identify as secular humanist. I'm open with my friends and immediate family about my beliefs, but try not to wear secularism on my sleeve. I'm not an activist, per se, but I did write (under a pseudonym) the secular blog for the Houston Chronicle's "Houston Belief" website last year. (http://houstonbelief..... That was a lot of fun! I am interested in promoting secularism, making it an accepted social norm. I am not particularly confrontational, so I think the best way to do that is through volunteerism and community engagement.

As for my personal life, I just graduated from law school and will be working as a government attorney downtown. I'm getting kind of old--prior to law school I was in the Army, and then I was a librarian for awhile. Hopefully, this will be my last career. As for hobbies, my wife and I love to cook and try new restaurants, so we're looking forward to getting involved in San Antonio's food culture.

Hope to meet many of you soon!

Brian

P.S. My wife thinks it is hilarious that there's a group called the St. Anthony Atheists. Maybe we can start a petition to rename the town "Senor Antonio?" Any other ideas?
