Holy Names! Now some Islamists want to prohibit non-Muslims from referring to God as Allah. By Christopher Hitchens, Slate.com

In Malaysia last month, there was vicious rioting after high court judge Lau Bee Lan issued a ruling on the proper naming of God. A complaint had been lodged by Muslim groups that local Christians were using the word Allah in their services and publications. (In the Malay language, that happens to be the word for God, a term Christians find it hard to do without.) The high court finding was very narrowly drawn; it said that the Catholic Herald could say Allah in its Malay-language edition, provided that the paper was sold "only on church grounds and bearing the label FOR NON-MUSLIMS ONLY."

I think that we should try to convince everyone to call god "Outis" (nobody), as Odysseus did with the cyclops in Homer's Odyssey.

My allegiance is to the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

Now they're not only fighting in the name of god, they're fighting over what to call him/her/it????

Good grief.

did anybody catch this one: Arabic ambassador gets marriage annulled after seeing wife

"uhhh, okay fellas. i think we outta re-think the whole veil' thing. make it more of a 'scarf' or 'hat' thing.

the Malaysia thing is crazy. its the Arabic word for god, isn't it? imagine christians saying no other people can say "God". ...wouldn't put it past them though.
