Saturday, January 16, 1-3 p.m.
Community UU Church
4818 E. Beverly Mae Dr.
(off Babcock, in the Medical Center area)
While millions of dollars continue to be spent on abstinence- only sex education, Texas continues to have a high rate of teen- age pregnancies, resulting in high social costs, ruined lives, and, often, battered babies. There has to be a better way! And there is! We know someone who is doing something to effectively address the problem.
At the January meeting of FACT, the Guest Speaker will be Dr. Janet Realini, President of Healthy Futures Alliance, San Antonio. Dr. Realini is a nationally known family practice physician who has devoted her career to reducing teen pregnancy. She has served as the Medical Director of Family Planning at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. While working there, she founded “Project WORTH”, the City of San Antonio’s program for teen pregnancy prevention. Recently she has founded the Healthy Futures Alliance, a coalition of community leaders and organizations, where the approach is to use science-based ways to reach out to teens and counter the failed policies of “abstinence only”.
There will be plenty of time for your questions and to find out how you can help in this effort. (After the refreshment break, we will solicit your ideas for FACT activities in the coming year.)
