Any good quotes to share religious or not religious?
I'll start with my favorite quote: I never learned anything from anyone that agreed with me. --Unknown I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty. Neither can I believe that the individual survives the death of his body, although feeble souls harbor such thoughts through fear or ridiculous egotisms. -- Albert Einstein The great trouble is that the preachers get the children from six to seven years of age and then it is almost impossible to do anything with them. -- Thomas Edison |

And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that Accept that its unknown, and its plain sailing." - John Lennon ... and my favorite: "The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin |

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent."
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Francis Hopkinson, March 13, 1789 "Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise." - "During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution." - James Madison, in a letter to William Bradford, April 1,1774 |

I don't want to overstep, but here's my take on the art and science paradox...
Science is the art of figuring out the rules and making sense of the world. Art is the science of questioning those rules and making nonsense of the world. Knowledge is a product of science. Wisdom is a product of art. Maybe I should try to squeeze that into a haiku. ;) |
