The San Antonio Atheists Meetup Group Message Board › Possible evidence Jesus Christ existed?

They have archaeological and DNA evidence that Jesus Christ, Mary, and Joseph were buried in these tombs. If the story holds water, this proves that Christ's resurrection was not in body. Of course, theologians will probably say it was more in spirit. No matter which way you look at it, this is a huge point for science and forensic evidence. Church officials were claiming that all this evidence should be ignored because it's not important. The article is dated in Feb 26 2007, but I thought it was an interesting read and a documentary that would be cool to share.

But, see this rebuttal.
http://www.beliefnet.... Most telling is the DNA claim; what did they compare the sample with? Seems to me, Jesus loses either way -- if his bones are there, then he didn't rise from the dead; if they are not there, then there is STILL no physical or historical evidence that such a man ever existed (let alone a demi-god!) |

Sorry guys, but this is an old story that has been heavily refuted, argued, etc. There are many doubters and many claims that is it a case of mistaken identify at best or a hoax by a man bent on "destroying" Christianity at its worst. Whatever the truth is, it just doesn't matter, since any evidence could be spun in either direction. "He's real!" ... "See, he was just a man." I personally don't care if he lived or not. My point on contention is that even if he were real, he wasn't a deity, the son of a deity, or 1/3 of a deity.

Thanks for the links. I see how it can be a possible hoax and mistaken identity, but the methods of researching history are improving with new technologies. It's just a matter of time before evidence is closer to being known. The doubters raise excellent points but that is no reason to discontinue the research completely. I was more interested in the actual man being discovered and it's placed in history. Nevertheless, I think this is a step in the right direction for discovering more about our species during that era.
